Fresh Pond just got a refresher!

Thanks to generous support from neighbors, visitors, and folks from every corner of Shelter Island, we have been able to complete a second annual lily pad harvest. This should trigger regrowth, which will pull phosphorus and nitrogen from the lake. Biologist Dr. Ken Wagner will be sampling and studying the pond today.

We will watch to see how the pond responds and if last year’s startling clarity following cleanup returns in the weeks ahead. We are discussing a follow-up cleanup in August with the town, and “Solitude Lake Solutions”.
