First "Muck to Mulch" Harvest of the summer 2025 now completed
Yesterday, Solitude Lake Solutions’ harvester completed work in trouble spots on Fresh Pond. Lily pads and algal mats were removed on the South side of the pond.
On Sunday, our third Citizen’s Statewide Lake Assessment sampling, measurements and testing showed an increase in pond clarity of half a meter. Separately, our tall marathon swimmer Julia Weisenberg, training in the pond, reported she could her feet — so five or six feet of visibility — good conditions for recreation!
Samples were flown in freezer containers via Air Express yesterday to the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation labs, but that same day Dr. Wagner’s biological survey on the pond also showed no signs of cyanobacteria. You can read the blog post below and Dr. Wagner’s report here.
This year’s July cleanup was performed two weeks earlier than 2024. This will lead to good conditions in early summer, and with your help, we are working on plans for a second harvest/cleanup in early August. Please consider a donation to this effort.
