Clarity and color steadily improving

With the removal of 11,500 ponds of decaying vegetation, a record harvest, Fresh Pond is now moving toward increased visibility and clarity. The green tint is steadily diminishing and pond may begin to feel fresher again.

Nevertheless a few areas of harmful mats remain, paticularly on the south side of the pond. Please keep pets and children away from these areas!

With post-harvest sampling at the end of this week, and lab testing for toxicities, we will begin to have a picture of the impact of this year’s short term cleanup work.

Electric lines will soon be going in for the pilot phase of the long term remediation, to begin next spring.
